The Ikenobo Ikebana Society Cebu Chapter on Friday opened an exhibit of traditional Japanese flower arrangements at SM J Mall, showcasing centuries-old artistry and cultural heritage.
The exhibit, “Ikenobo: The Heart and Soul of Ikebana,” highlights works by local members of the society and runs through Dec. 8 at the mall’s Atrium.
Ikebana traces its origins to Ikenobo, a practice founded by Japanese priests who created floral offerings at temples, inspiring an art form that emphasizes respect for nature and harmony.
Consul General Hideaki Matsuo of the Consulate General of Japan to Cebu attended the opening ceremony and underscored the enduring tradition of Ikenobo.
Society President Maria Theresa Zosa was joined by other officials and representatives from the Cebu Arts Council and SM Supermalls in unveiling the exhibit.
Organizers said the showcase aims to promote cultural exchange and appreciation of Japanese aesthetics, as well as encourage the public to immerse themselves in the subtle beauty and meaning behind each floral arrangement.
