Digital infrastructure firm Equinix Inc has announced its second renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA) in Singapore with Sembcorp Power, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries.
The agreement will provide up to 133.5 Megawatt peak (MWp) of renewable energy to support Equinix’s growing data center operations in the country, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and aligning with the Singapore Green Plan 2030.
The PPA will include a capacity of 58.5 MWp of solar energy generated from properties on Jurong Island, commencing in 2029.
This renewable energy initiative is expected to offset over 30,275 tons of carbon emissions annually—equivalent to powering more than 17,200 4-room HDB flats each year.
The agreement also supports Singapore’s vision of transforming Jurong Island into a sustainable energy hub, contributing to the nation’s transition toward a greener economy.
Equinix’s ongoing sustainability efforts are designed to address the increasing energy demands of data centers while mitigating their impact on power constraints and emissions targets.
The company has implemented energy efficiency practices and strategic renewable energy procurement to meet its environmental goals and support its customers’ sustainability objectives.
This agreement builds on Equinix’s first PPA in Singapore, signed in April 2024, which will deliver 75 MWp of solar energy starting in 2027.
Globally, Equinix has executed 25 PPAs since 2015, contributing approximately 3.25 million megawatt hours of renewable energy annually to local grids across 11 countries.
In 2023, Equinix achieved 96% renewable energy coverage across its global operations, with 100% renewables achieved in key Asia-Pacific markets, including Singapore.
By advancing renewable energy projects like this latest PPA, Equinix continues to lead in integrating sustainability into the digital economy while supporting Singapore’s green energy transition.
