MediSun Energy, a company specializing in osmotic energy technology, has raised $8.75 million in a Seed funding round and announced a strategic partnership with Southeast Asian venture capital firm Vynn Capital.

The funding includes $5 million in venture debt and $3.75 million in equity financing, bringing MediSun’s valuation to $44 million.

The financing, led by Vynn Capital, attracted participation from new investors, including Saudi Arabia’s MOAJ Holding, Singapore-based TNB Aura via its Scout Initiative, and climate-tech-focused Ciri Ventures.

MOAJ Holding has also pledged up to $30 million to establish a local joint venture with MediSun in Saudi Arabia, signaling significant regional expansion plans.

This investment represents one of the major allocations from Vynn Capital’s Mobility and Supply Chain fund, supported by Malaysian institutional investors and regional partners.

The partnership is set to accelerate MediSun’s entry into the MENA region while bolstering its research and development capabilities. The company plans to establish two production facilities focused on membranes and stacks.

MediSun’s proprietary technology, WEGen, leverages osmotic power to enhance energy efficiency in desalination processes while generating renewable energy.

The company’s zero-brine technology aligns with global sustainability goals by reducing energy consumption and supporting a net-carbon-neutral future.

Vynn Capital highlighted the potential of MediSun’s solutions in addressing water scarcity and energy management challenges, with applications extending to mobility and industrial sectors.

The investment underscores Southeast Asia’s growing role in the renewable energy sector.

In addition to MediSun, Vynn Capital is exploring other opportunities in key markets, including Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, reflecting its focus on technologies that drive sustainability and innovation across the region’s water technology market.

This partnership positions MediSun and Vynn Capital at the forefront of sustainable energy innovation, emphasizing their shared commitment to addressing critical environmental challenges.
