JDC One Acacia Corporation, operator of JEG Tower, has signed a retail electricity supply agreement with Vivant Energy subsidiary COREnergy to secure fixed electricity rates for the next two years.
Under the agreement, the 22-storey office building in Cebu City contracted 0.6 megawatt of energy capacity through the Retail Competition and Open Access framework, according to a statement issued on Monday.
The arrangement will allow JEG Tower to obtain more predictable generation costs and manage electricity expenses more strategically.
“Electricity is fundamental to how we operate our building and serve our tenants,” said Marivic Sembrano, president of JDC One Acacia.
“By taking a more strategic approach to energy procurement, we’re able to better manage one of our major operating costs while continuing to provide a reliable, comfortable and productive environment for the businesses that have chosen JEG Tower as their workplace,” she added.
JEG Tower will also gain access to COREnergy’s customer portal, which provides daily and hourly electricity-load profiles, billing records, load-factor data and historical generation charges.
The information will help the building’s management monitor power consumption, make operational decisions and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency.
Marko Sarmiento, COREnergy vice president and head of operations, said efficient energy procurement could benefit both commercial property owners and their tenants.
“When building operators gain greater visibility and control over electricity costs, they’re also strengthening the services they provide to their tenants,” Sarmiento said.
“Retail electricity is not just about managing costs. It’s about enabling commercial properties to operate more efficiently and creating better environments for the businesses inside them,” he added.
COREnergy and its parent Vivant Corporation are Cebu-based companies with longstanding ties to the region’s business community. JEG Development Corporation, meanwhile, is engaged in commercial real estate and traces its roots to the Escaño family’s business interests in Cebu.
