Private equity major KKR has appointed former Manulife President and Chief Executive Roy Gori as a senior advisor, tapping the insurance industry veteran to help identify growth opportunities across global financial services with a focus on Asia Pacific and international markets, according to an announcement.
In the advisory role, Gori will work with KKR’s senior leadership and investment teams, providing strategic guidance on insurance, wealth management, banking, distribution and related financial services, including market structure, regulation, partnerships and international expansion.
“We are pleased to welcome Roy to KKR as a Senior Advisor,” KKR co-CEOs Joe Bae and Scott Nuttall said in a statement, describing him as one of the financial services industry’s most respected leaders with decades of experience building businesses across Asia Pacific and internationally.
Billy Butcher and Manu Sareen, co-CEOs of Global Atlantic, KKR’s insurance business, said Gori’s expertise in insurance, wealth management and distribution would support the firm’s efforts to expand its global financial services platform and pursue new partnership opportunities.
Gori led Manulife from 2017 until retiring in 2025, overseeing a strategic transformation focused on digital innovation, customer experience and growth. Before becoming group CEO, he headed Manulife Asia, where he managed operations across 12 markets and drove the insurer’s regional expansion.
“I am excited to join KKR at a time of tremendous opportunity for the firm in Asia Pacific and globally,” Gori said, adding that he would help advance opportunities across insurance, wealth management, banking and distribution.
Before joining Manulife, Gori spent nearly two decades at Citibank, where he rose to lead its Asia Pacific retail banking business, including insurance and wealth management operations. He has lived and worked in Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Canada.
