Schroders Wealth Management has appointed former Coutts chief executive Peter Flavel as chair and independent non-executive director of Schroder & Co (Asia) Limited, as the firm steps up its expansion in the region.
The appointment is subject to regulatory approval, Schroders said in a statement on Monday. Flavel will work with Evonne Tan, who was recently appointed chief executive of Schroders Wealth Management in Asia.
Flavel has more than three decades of experience in private banking and wealth management across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
He established Standard Chartered’s global private bank and later served as chief executive of J.P. Morgan Private Wealth Management for Asia Pacific. He most recently led Coutts, where he oversaw a transformation and modernisation of the British private bank.
“Asia remains one of the most attractive long-term wealth markets globally and is central to our growth ambitions,” Schroders Wealth Management Chief Executive Oliver Gregson said.
Gregson said Flavel’s experience in building private banking and wealth management businesses would support the firm’s continued investment in Asia.
The appointment follows Tan’s recent arrival as regional CEO and reflects Schroders’ efforts to deepen client relationships and strengthen its capabilities across Asian markets.
Flavel said Schroders had a “clear ambition for growth in Asia” and that he would work with Tan and the wider leadership team to build on the firm’s momentum.
Tan said Flavel’s experience leading major private banking businesses, particularly in Asia, would benefit the company’s clients and employees.
The appointment also marks a planned governance transition. Jason Lai, who has served on the board and contributed to the development of Schroders Wealth Management’s Asia business, will step down.
Schroders Wealth Management, including Cazenove Capital and Benchmark Capital, managed 145 billion pounds ($194 billion) in client assets globally as of the end of 2025.
The firm serves private individuals, family offices, trusts, institutions and charities, offering investment management, wealth planning and banking services.
Its wealth management operations have offices in Singapore and Switzerland, while Cazenove Capital operates in the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands.
