Filipino Homes’ Leuterio urges gov’t to sustain ASEAN Summit-level public service

Leuterio said public service standards should not improve only when foreign dignitaries are in the country, but should be embedded in everyday governance.

Anthony O. Leuterio, one of the Philippines’ most prominent real estate industry leaders, has urged government officials to sustain the level of efficiency, discipline, and public order seen during the recent ASEAN Summit, saying Filipinos deserve consistent public service beyond high-profile international events.

In a statement issued after the summit, Leuterio said public service standards should not improve only when foreign dignitaries are in the country, but should be embedded in everyday governance.

“Treat every Filipino as your boss,” said Leuterio, founder of Filipino Homes, emphasizing that public officials derive their authority and mandate from the people.

He said the government should work to make communities “prepared, clean, safe, and disciplined daily,” citing waste collection, road clearing, peace and order, and stronger police visibility as basic public expectations.

“Treat every day like an ASEAN Summit, because Filipinos deserve the same level of care, attention, and respect,” he said.

Leuterio’s remarks echo public frustration that infrastructure cleanups, traffic management, and security measures are often intensified during major international gatherings, only to fade once the events are over.

His comments also come as the Philippines seeks to strengthen its position as a destination for tourism, foreign investment, and regional business events, with urban livability and public infrastructure increasingly viewed as key to long-term competitiveness.

“Public service should not be seasonal. It should be consistent,” Leuterio said. “Every Filipino deserves the best service from our country.”
