Singapore’s ITE, BDx partner to build data centre talent pipeline

The agreement covers all three ITE colleges and will give students hands-on training at BDx’s AI-ready SIN1 data centre facility, which also hosts a quantum computing test bed, creating pathways to jobs in the sector.

Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has signed a memorandum of understanding with BDx Data Centers to help build a talent pipeline for the city-state’s fast-growing digital infrastructure sector, the two organisations said on Tuesday.

The agreement covers all three ITE colleges and will give students hands-on training at BDx’s AI-ready SIN1 data centre facility, which also hosts a quantum computing test bed, creating pathways to jobs in the sector.

The partnership comes as Singapore pushes ahead with its Green Data Centre Roadmap and Smart Nation plans, amid rising demand for workers who can run digital infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence, financial systems and other essential services.

“Data centers are the backbone of the AI revolution,” BDx Data Centers Chief Executive Mayank Srivastava said in a statement. He said the tie-up with ITE would help build a pipeline of local talent and strengthen Singapore’s position in AI and digital infrastructure.

ITE Chief Executive Peter Lam said the collaboration would allow the institution to incorporate real-world data centre operational scenarios into its teaching modules so that students graduate with practical, job-ready skills.

According to the Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association, Singapore’s data centre sector currently supports about 7,000 high-value jobs, a figure projected to nearly triple by 2030, while the industry’s economic contribution is expected to rise 8.9 times over the same period.

Backed by infrastructure investor I Squared Capital, BDx operates 18 facilities with 750 megawatts of capacity across Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and China.
