Otis names Nico Lopez as Asia Pacific president

Lopez will be responsible for Otis’ operations across Asia Pacific excluding Greater China.

Otis Worldwide Corp, the world’s largest maker of elevators and escalators, has appointed Nicolas (Nico) Lopez as president of its Asia Pacific business, effective immediately, as the U.S.-listed group looks to deepen growth in a region where urbanisation and building upgrades continue to drive demand.

Lopez will be responsible for Otis’ operations across Asia Pacific excluding Greater China, overseeing activities spanning service, modernization, new equipment, manufacturing and innovation, the company said.

“It takes advanced technology, outstanding technical expertise, and deep dedication to move millions of people safely and reliably across Asia Pacific every day,” Lopez said in a statement. “We never take this trust for granted, and we are always working to meet the expectations of the people we serve.”

Otis generates a large share of its earnings from recurring maintenance and repair work tied to its installed base, and elevator modernization has become a key profit pool globally as building owners extend asset life, upgrade safety features and improve energy efficiency.

Lopez brings commercial, operational, legal and governance experience to the role. He has spent about a decade at Otis and most recently served as managing director for Otis Southeast Asia.

His tenure has also included oversight of distributor operations across more than 60 countries, as well as senior business development and compliance roles across Otis’ Asia Pacific and Latin America businesses. He also spent nearly a decade with Otis’ former parent company.

He holds an MBA from Universidad del CEMA and a Master of Laws from Columbia Law School.

Lopez succeeds Stéphane de Montlivault, who has retired after about four decades with the company. Otis said de Montlivault played a key role in developing the company’s leadership position in Asia and co-founded WorkWell Leaders, a charity focused on workplace mental wellbeing.
