Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Japan’s Ambassador Endo Kazuya attended a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for a key section of the Metro Manila Subway Project, as the government pushes ahead with construction of the country’s first underground rail line to ease congestion in the capital.
The ceremony marked the start of works for Contract Package 105 (CP105), which will build about 1.3 km of tunnels and two underground stations, extending from the Kalayaan Avenue Station until before the start of the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) Station.
The project is aimed at meeting Metro Manila’s rising transport demand by providing a reliable alternative to road-based travel, easing heavy traffic and supporting efforts to reduce air pollution and emissions.
