SM Prime to open 89th Philippine mall in La Union on Oct. 17

The mall, located along Diversion Road in Barangay Biday, San Fernando City, will feature “Sandbox,” a 1,348-sq m outdoor venue for sports tournaments, mini-concerts and community activities, alongside a bike lane running parallel to a manmade sandbar.

SM Prime Holdings Inc. said it will open SM City La Union, its 89th mall in the Philippines, on Oct. 17, adding over 51,000 square metres of leasable space in Northern Luzon, with more than 80% already taken up.

The mall, located along Diversion Road in Barangay Biday, San Fernando City, will feature “Sandbox,” a 1,348-sq m outdoor venue for sports tournaments, mini-concerts and community activities, alongside a bike lane running parallel to a manmade sandbar.

“This is our ninth mall in Northern Luzon and we designed it to serve as a landmark for both residents and tourists,” SM Prime President Jeffrey Lim said.

Anchor tenants include SM Store, SM Markets, Ace Hardware, Toy Kingdom, Levi’s, Watsons, Surplus, Pet Express, Adidas, Miniso, Sports Central, SM Appliance Center, Puma, UNIQLO, National Bookstore and BDO.

The property will also house an SM Foodhall and the province’s first Director’s Club cinema.

SM Prime said the project aims to tap La Union’s status as a surfing and tourism hub.

The province generated over 1 billion pesos in tourism revenues in 2024, with average length of stay rising to 1.39 days from 1.33 days, and more than 500,000 tourist arrivals, led by San Fernando City, San Juan and Bauang.

The company did not disclose project cost.
