Hong Kong Veterinary Group Opens 24-Hour Hospital Built on ‘Fear Free’ Principles

East Island 24-Hour Animal Hospital spans 11,000 sq ft across two floors, offering Fear Free® design, advanced medicine, and affordable premium care with extended consultation hours.

Creature Comforts Veterinary Group has opened Hong Kong Island’s first purpose-built 24-hour animal hospital designed around “Fear Free” principles, marking a significant expansion for the 23-year-old veterinary practice.

The East Island 24-Hour Animal Hospital in Shau Kei Wan spans 11,000 square feet across two floors and features specialized areas including dog-and-cat separation zones, soundproof feline wards, and “Rainbow Rooms” for end-of-life care, the company said in a statement.

The facility offers extended consultations until midnight with round-the-clock emergency support, addressing a gap in Hong Kong’s veterinary care infrastructure where most clinics operate limited hours.

Medical capabilities include real-time intensive care monitoring, an on-site blood bank with guaranteed delivery, laser therapy, and expanded diagnostic services including ultrasound, echocardiography and endoscopy.

The hospital plans to add a CT scanner and mobility-friendly animal lift later this year.

“High-quality veterinary medicine should not be limited to a select few. Premium care doesn’t need to come with premium pricing,” said Dr David, the group’s Medical Director.

Dr Kaylen, Vet Manager, emphasized the therapeutic benefits of the Fear Free approach: “When animals are calm, they recover better. And when owners feel safe, they can focus on supporting their pets rather than panicking.”

Creature Comforts, which began as Hong Kong’s first house-call veterinary service in 2002, has grown to serve more than 40,000 pets citywide.

The group expanded with its Veterinary TKO Center in 2021 before launching the new Shau Kei Wan facility.

The hospital is developing community outreach programs, including adoption events with local charity Paws United, to promote pet adoption and support animal welfare initiatives.

The opening reflects growing demand for specialized veterinary care in Hong Kong, where pet ownership has increased significantly in recent years amid changing lifestyle patterns and greater focus on animal welfare.
