A coalition of civic and sectoral groups on Friday launched a signature campaign in Cebu calling for the removal of House Speaker Martin Romualdez, in a move they said will culminate in a solidarity rally this weekend.
Organizers said the petition, unveiled at the Rajah Hotel, will be circulated nationwide. It cites alleged irregularities in the 2025 national budget, kickbacks from public works projects, and what they described as politicized allocation of aid funds.
The petition also referred to complaints reportedly filed before the Office of the Ombudsman.
Romualdez’s office could not immediately be reached for comment.
At least 12 organizations are backing the campaign, including the following:
• 3-11 Movement (Isang Bayan, Isang Laban)
• Duterte Riders Team Cebu Inc.
• Cebu Citizen Guardians 625
• The Cebu Press Club
• Baruganan
• Cebu Muslim Businessmen Association (CEMBA)
• Knights Helping Hands Disaster Assistance Group
• Consolidated Council of United Vendors Association (CCUVA)
• Reforma Pilipinas • Rider Solidarity Philippines (National Chapter)
• Inclusive Muslims Cebu Alliance
• Alliance of Inclusive Muslims Cebu
“This petition represents the collective voice of concerned citizens who demand accountability and integrity in government,” the groups said in a joint statement.
The organizers said the petition drive is a prelude to a rally on Sunday, where participating groups are expected to press their demands for Romualdez’s ouster.
