DHL Global Forwarding has opened a 38,000 square foot cold chain facility at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, becoming the first forwarder to offer dual temperature-certified storage within the airport’s Free Commercial Zone.
The facility, which received both DHL Air GxP and IATA CEIV Pharma certifications, can store pharmaceuticals at both 15-25°C and 2-8°C temperatures and support up to 105 EU pallets.
“Malaysia is strategically located to serve as a regional hub for global medical technology companies,” said Praveen Gregory, Managing Director for Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei at DHL Global Forwarding.
The Malaysian medical technology market is expected to grow at 8.5% annually from 2023 to 2028, reaching $4.5 billion by 2028, he added.
The facility includes dedicated cold rooms totaling 1,544 square feet, over 2,400 square feet of secure storage with 24/7 surveillance, and automated temperature monitoring systems.
DHL is the only forwarder at KLIA offering refrigerated truck transfers to maintain cold chain integrity throughout transport.
Asia Pacific’s healthcare logistics market is forecast to grow from $17.6 billion in 2022 to $29.5 billion by 2030, according to Data Bridge Market Research, driven by aging populations and rising demand for biologics and vaccines.
DHL operates 37 Air GxP-certified stations and 12 IATA CEIV Pharma-certified stations across Asia Pacific.
Earlier this year, DHL Group announced a 500 million euro investment in Life Sciences infrastructure across the region as part of its Strategy 2030 growth plan.
The facility uses eco-friendly R448A refrigerant and energy-efficient compressors as part of DHL’s green logistics commitment.
