Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has announced the appointment of Atul Bhuchar as Head of Transaction Banking Product for its Asia Pacific Division, based in Singapore.
Bhuchar’s role will be pivotal in enhancing SMBC’s transaction banking services, focusing on cash management and trade finance solutions to aid clients in managing their working capital and strengthening their supply chain resilience across different geographies.
With over 27 years of experience in the banking industry, Bhuchar has held significant roles in several major financial institutions, including DBS, HSBC, Citibank, and Partior.
At Partior, he was instrumental in developing cutting-edge financial infrastructure using blockchain technology and regulated digital currencies.
This extensive background positions him well to lead SMBC’s product development and commercialization efforts in the region.
Atul Bhuchar will report directly to Shinichiro Yamazaki, Head of the Global Transaction Banking Department, Asia Pacific Division.
Yamazaki expressed confidence in Bhuchar’s capabilities, emphasizing his deep understanding of product life cycles and customer needs which are crucial for navigating complex international markets.
SMBC, headquartered in Tokyo, is a major player in the global banking scene and a core member of the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group.
The bank boasts significant assets and maintains a robust presence across 39 countries, with a strategic focus on the Asia Pacific region where it operates integrated services tailored to both corporate and individual customers.
