Sky Cable Corp. has announced a commercial arrangement with Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions, Inc. (PSE: CNVRG) to upgrade its network and enhance services for its subscribers.
The partnership leverages Converge’s state-of-the-art fiber network to support Sky’s transformation efforts.
Sky Chairman Mark Lopez expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “Converge has built a superior state-of-the-art fiber network nationwide that Sky customers will soon experience.”
The initiative aligns with Sky’s broader transformation plan aimed at improving its product offerings and service quality.
Sky President and Chief Operations Officer Claudia Suarez highlighted the benefits of the arrangement, noting, “Through the partnership with Converge, we expect Sky and its subscribers to benefit from the world-class fiber network that Converge has built over the last few years.”
Converge President and Co-Founder Maria Grace Uy emphasized the mutual advantages of the agreement.
“This arrangement will allow Converge to maximize its network and increase port utilization. It will be a revenue boost for Converge, consistent with similar arrangements with other players, as we continue to monetize our excess network capacity,” Uy explained.
Converge boasts the largest fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network in the Philippines, with over eight million ports and a fiber footprint extending over 700,000 kilometers, reaching 16 million Filipino homes.
As of the end of March 2024, Converge serves 2.3 million residential broadband subscribers across the country.
Reflecting on the partnership, Converge CEO and Co-Founder Dennis Anthony Uy remarked, “The first business I built was in cable television, and with the advent of fiber technology, my wife Grace and I entered the fixed broadband business. I’m excited to help Sky, the leader in the cable business, in its transformation by providing the latest optical fiber technology.”
Converge Chief Operations Officer Jesus Romero expressed confidence in the benefits for Sky subscribers. “We are confident that Sky subscribers will experience improved service with faster broadband speeds through fiber connectivity,” Romero said.
Carlo Katigbak, president and CEO of ABS-CBN and a Sky director, also supported the initiative. “We believe this is the best way to move forward and stay focused on delivering superior customer experience,” Katigbak stated.
In addition to the network upgrade, Sky’s transformation program aims to increase operational efficiency, enforce greater financial discipline, and implement organizational improvements.
Dennis Anthony Uy concluded, “We hope to replicate this business model and encourage other players to do the same. This is part of Converge’s mission to bring world-class connectivity to all Filipinos and leave no one behind in this digital age.”
The collaboration between Sky Cable Corp. and Converge ICT is poised to significantly enhance the broadband experience for Sky’s subscribers, reflecting a strategic move to leverage advanced fiber technology in the Philippine telecommunications landscape.
