Barclays Names Joseph Lee Head of High Touch Sales Trading for Asia Pacific

The appointment marks a strategic expansion for Barclays in high-touch execution, complementing its existing strengths in program and electronic trading.

Barclays has appointed Joseph Lee as Head of High Touch Sales Trading for Asia Pacific, strengthening its equities trading capabilities in the region as it aims to scale its APAC equities franchise.

Based in Hong Kong, Lee will oversee the bank’s high-touch cash equities trading operations across Asia Pacific.

He will report functionally to Peter Ramsey, Global Head of Cash Equities, and regionally to Christian Treuer, Head of Equities Distribution, Asia Pacific.

The appointment marks a strategic expansion for Barclays in high-touch execution, complementing its existing strengths in program and electronic trading.

The bank said the move is part of a broader push to deepen client relationships and deliver integrated equities services across the region.

Barclays has been expanding its equities business in Asia in recent years, with investments in structured and flow derivatives, quantitative investment strategies (QIS), and prime services.

The bank has also broadened institutional client coverage and made platform upgrades alongside key hires.

Lee brings nearly 30 years of experience in equities trading and sales. He joins Barclays from HSBC, where he was Head of Block Liquidity in Hong Kong.

His previous roles include Head of Korea Equities and APAC High Touch Execution at Credit Suisse, as well as senior positions at Deutsche Bank, CLSA, Goldman Sachs, and Nomura.

At Barclays, Lee will work closely with Matt Toms, Head of APAC Cash Equity Execution; Kaanhari Singh, APAC Head of Equities Tactical Strategies and Flow Sales; and Daniel Ranson-Acton, Head of International Equity Cash Sales in APAC.

The bank said Lee’s appointment aligns with its ambition to become a top five global equities franchise and underscores its long-term commitment to building a differentiated equities platform in the Asia Pacific region.
