Megaworld Corp. and IRONMAN have renewed their partnership for the staging of IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu, set for August 10, 2025, at The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
The agreement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by executives from both organizations, alongside key government officials, including Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan and Congressman Junard “Ahong” Chan.
The event marks another milestone in Megaworld’s strategy to leverage its integrated townships as platforms for global sports tourism.
IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu has become a flagship event on the global triathlon calendar, previously earning recognition as the Best Spectator Race in the World in 2018.
Organizers expect over 2,000 athletes from more than 40 countries to compete this year, in addition to thousands of local and international spectators.
The event is projected to deliver strong economic benefits to Cebu, particularly in the hospitality, food and beverage, retail, and transport sectors.
Local hotels, restaurants, and micro-enterprises typically experience a surge in demand during the race weekend, further boosting the region’s tourism-driven economy.
Megaworld said the triathlon aligns with its long-term commitment to promote wellness, lifestyle, and tourism through its township developments.
The Mactan Newtown has played host to several large-scale international events and is positioned as a key venue in the country’s growing sports tourism sector.
The IRONMAN 70.3 series continues to attract both elite and amateur athletes, with the Lapu-Lapu leg regarded as one of the most scenic and logistically efficient in Asia.
