ACEN, UPC Renewables Break Ground on 540MW Clean Energy Projects in India

The JV broke ground on a 420 MW solar project in Rajasthan and a 120 MW wind project in Karnataka.

ACEN Corp, the listed energy platform of Philippine conglomerate Ayala Corp, and its partner UPC Renewables have started construction on more than 500 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy projects in India, reinforcing their push into one of the world’s fastest-growing clean energy markets.

The joint venture broke ground on a 420 MW solar project in Rajasthan and a 120 MW wind project in Karnataka, with both slated for completion by early 2027.

Once operational, the projects are expected to generate a combined 1,158 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually—enough to power roughly 241,000 homes and avoid more than 876,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.

The solar farm, located in Rajasthan’s Barmer region, is expected to contribute 767 GWh annually, leveraging high solar irradiance. The wind facility in Karnataka will produce 391 GWh, benefitting from favorable wind conditions driven by the monsoon.

The construction phase is expected to create over 1,500 jobs, contributing to local employment and economic development.

ACEN International CEO Patrice Clausse said the projects mark another milestone in the company’s disciplined growth strategy, while UPC Renewables Chairman Brian Caffyn said the initiative adds to their expanding footprint in the Asia-Pacific region.

The new projects follow the companies’ existing operational portfolio in India, which includes the 420 MW Masaya Solar, 70 MW Paryapt Solar, and 140 MW Sitara Solar assets.

UPC Renewables India CEO Alok Nigam said the new builds are part of a broader pipeline of more than 1 gigawatt of renewable energy projects slated for rollout in the next two years.
