Globe Telecom, through its anti-hunger initiative the Hapag Movement and in partnership with the Ayala Foundation, has donated ₱1 million worth of rice to the Sugbo School Feeding Program, a province-wide nutrition effort led by the Cebu Provincial Government.
The donation, delivered to the Capitol Warehouse in Cebu City, is expected to benefit 890,000 public school students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 across the province by supporting the delivery of daily hot meals in schools.
The Sugbo School Feeding Program provides one nutritious meal per school day to help reduce hunger among students and improve attendance and classroom performance.
The initiative is part of Cebu’s broader effort to combat food insecurity and learning loss among schoolchildren.
“Good nutrition is critical to a child’s development,” said Patrick Gloria, Globe’s Vice President for External Affairs. “By supporting this program, we hope to help ensure that children are nourished and ready to learn.”
The donation was mobilized through the Hapag Movement, Globe’s platform aimed at addressing involuntary hunger through resource pooling and strategic partnerships.
The initiative channels contributions to communities most affected by food insecurity, with a focus on vulnerable children.
Data from UNICEF show that nearly one in three Filipino children suffers from stunting due to chronic undernutrition.
This health issue has been cited as a factor in the Philippines’ low performance in the 2024 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), where 15-year-old Filipino students scored below the global average.
Globe said it will continue to work with partners to address undernutrition and educational setbacks by scaling support for local initiatives such as the Sugbo School Feeding Program.
