Philippine Airlines (PAL) said that production has begun on its first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft at the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France, marking a key milestone in its fleet modernization programme.
The aircraft, the first of nine A350-1000s ordered by the country’s flag carrier, is undergoing structural assembly of its main components, including the fuselage sections and wings.
Once completed, the jet will enter final assembly for system installation and rigorous quality testing.
Delivery of the first aircraft is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, with eight more set to arrive between 2026 and 2028.
“This is a fleet game-changer,” said PAL President Richard Nuttall, adding that the aircraft would enhance passenger capacity and support PAL’s aim of delivering world-class service.
Fitted with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, the A350-1000 offers a range of up to 16,100 kilometres and accommodates 382 passengers in a tri-class layout.
The new widebody will be instrumental in expanding PAL’s long-haul operations, particularly transpacific routes, by offering greater fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
PAL Executive Vice President and COO Atty. Carlos Luis Fernandez said the aircraft will provide the airline with greater flexibility to match market demand.
The airline currently operates 79 aircraft and is also expecting delivery of 13 Airbus A321neo regional jets starting in 2026.
The latest acquisition aligns PAL with major global carriers that have adopted the A350-1000 for some of the world’s longest commercial routes.
