AllianzGI Appoints Christian Schulz as Chief Economist

Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) has appointed Christian Schulz as its new Chief Economist, the company said, strengthening its macroeconomic research and strategy capabilities amid growing demand for forward-looking market insights.

Schulz, who will assume the role on July 1, will lead AllianzGI’s Global Economics & Strategy team. He will be based in Frankfurt and report to Michael Krautzberger, Chief Investment Officer for Public Markets.

Schulz joins AllianzGI from Citigroup Global Markets, where he most recently served as Deputy Chief European Economist. He co-led Citi’s European Economics team, covering Germany, Switzerland, and the European Central Bank.

Earlier roles included Chief UK Economist at Citi, as well as stints with Berenberg, the European Central Bank, and The Boston Consulting Group.

In his new role, Schulz will provide macroeconomic research that supports investment decision-making across asset classes, particularly those influenced by global macro trends.

AllianzGI said his expertise in long-term forecasting, short-term data interpretation, and AI integration will help sharpen its investment perspectives.

The asset manager, which oversees EUR 561 billion globally, said Schulz’s appointment reflects its continued push to attract top talent and deepen its global investment strategy bench.
