Hong Kong’s Central Plaza Achieves Quadruple Platinum Sustainability Certifications

Central Plaza, the third tallest office building in Hong Kong, has received four Platinum-level certifications for sustainability, digital infrastructure, and workplace wellness, affirming its status as one of the city’s leading Grade-A commercial properties, according to an announcement.

The landmark tower in Wan Chai secured Platinum ratings from BEAM Plus, LEED, WELL Core, and WiredScore, reflecting significant upgrades in energy efficiency, building operations, and tenant well-being.

The certifications recognize Central Plaza’s transition toward environmentally responsible and future-ready office space standards despite its completion in 1992.

The BEAM Plus and LEED certifications underscore Central Plaza’s commitment to sustainability, with notable reductions in electricity consumption, carbon emissions, and water usage over the past five years.

Initiatives such as water-cooled chillers, electricity-free cooling paint, LED lighting, and on-demand escalators have contributed to its improved environmental performance.

In parallel, the WELL Core certification highlights measures supporting tenant health and comfort, while the WiredScore Platinum rating indicates the building’s readiness for advanced digital connectivity and smart building technologies.

The building has also introduced continuous monitoring of environmental quality, including air contaminants, to enhance workplace transparency and comfort.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy to maintain high service quality and future-proof its infrastructure for evolving corporate needs.

Centrally located in Wan Chai North, Central Plaza comprises 75 floors and over 1.18 million square feet of lettable space.

It houses a diverse range of tenants, including multinational firms, consulates, and public-listed companies across industries such as finance, insurance, law, media, and technology.

Despite the challenges of retrofitting an older skyscraper to meet modern sustainability benchmarks, Central Plaza’s upgrades place it among the top-tier office developments in Asia.

Its strategic location, combined with improved environmental and digital credentials, continues to attract tenants seeking premium office environments aligned with green and tech-forward standards.
