BDO Unibank Expands Financial Accessibility with Integrated Banking Strategy

BDO Unibank, Inc. (BDO) is advancing financial accessibility across the Philippines by seamlessly integrating digital and physical banking channels, aligning with the evolving needs of its clients.

BDO’s strategy leverages its extensive branch network and innovative digital platforms to ensure that customers, regardless of location or technological proficiency, can access essential financial services.

The bank has significantly invested in its mobile app and online banking platforms, enhancing user experience with intuitive interfaces, robust security features, and a variety of services including fund transfers, bill payments, and merchant payments.

At the recent PRISM 2024 Business Student Conference hosted by National University, Atty. Federico Tancongco, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at BDO Unibank, highlighted the continuing preference among many Filipinos for in-branch transactions.

This preference underscores the importance of a balanced approach catering to both digital-savvy clients and those favoring face-to-face banking experiences.

“We have to make our products responsive to the needs of the people we are trying to reach. Being present in communities through our branches and agents allows us to better understand our clients. We are physically present in 92% of the country’s municipalities. We are also expanding our presence online,” Tancongco said.

BDO’s physical branches remain crucial, especially for clients preferring in-person transactions or requiring assistance with complex financial products.

The integration of digital services within branches ensures a seamless transition between online and offline banking experiences.

Moreover, BDO’s physical presence plays a vital role in disaster response, mitigating the Philippines’ high vulnerability to climate-related events.

During disasters such as super typhoons or heavy flooding, power and internet outages render digital banking services inaccessible. In such scenarios, BDO’s branches provide essential services, enabling affected communities to access cash for necessities.

Currently operating 1,729 branches, BDO plans to expand further, particularly in underserved areas.

BDO’s phygital banking approach aims to enhance financial inclusion, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. By integrating physical and digital services, BDO provides accessible, reliable, and inclusive financial solutions to help Filipinos achieve their financial goals confidently.
