The National Privacy Commission has awarded Waterfront Hotels Group’s Joson Lim the 2025 Data Protection Officer of the Year, recognizing his role in driving the hospitality group’s compliance with the Philippines’ data privacy laws and building a privacy-first culture across its operations.
Lim, who leads data privacy efforts at the nationwide hotel chain, received the award during the commission’s Privacy Awareness Week 2025.
The annual recognition highlights outstanding leadership in data protection and privacy governance in both the public and private sectors.
Under Lim’s leadership, Waterfront Hotels Group implemented sweeping privacy reforms, including regular staff training, rigorous privacy impact assessments, and enterprise-wide security protocols.
The company said these initiatives have reinforced its data protection systems and bolstered trust among its guests and workforce.
Lim’s work has elevated data privacy practices in the hospitality industry, the National Privacy Commission said in a statement, noting his contributions toward full compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
The NPC awards are part of the country’s broader push to promote responsible data stewardship amid rising digital transformation and cybersecurity risks.
