The Philippines has made history at Expo 2025 Osaka with the debut of the world’s first live performance façade, an immersive display that fuses architecture and dance in real-time.
Staged by the internationally acclaimed Ballet Philippines, the country’s pavilion transforms into a living stage through June 15.
Set behind the pavilion’s intricately woven exterior panels, the performances bring the façade to life as dancers animate the structure with motion and storytelling.
The experience is designed to reflect the Philippines’ Expo theme: Nature, Culture, and Community: Woven Together for a Better Future.
“This is a powerful celebration of movement, Filipino identity, and artistic collaboration—seen in a way like never before at a World Expo,” said Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, COO of the Tourism Promotions Board and Secretary General of the Philippine Organizing Committee.
Lead architect Carlo Calma described the performance as “an embodiment of the pavilion’s design vision, where nature and human creativity intersect through innovative storytelling.”
The Philippine Pavilion’s showings offer a multisensory experience that combines performance art with architectural ingenuity—an offering no other country has yet attempted at a World Expo.
Tourism officials said the limited run highlights the Philippines’ ability to innovate on the global stage, elevating its cultural exports beyond the traditional showcase format.
The project is the result of collaboration between the Department of Tourism, the Tourism Promotions Board Philippines, and a multidisciplinary team including Carlo Calma Consultancy Inc., Creative Producer Chochay Garcia, Executive Architect Yuki Kanou, and experience design firm Tellart.
Ballet Philippines’ façade performances run daily until June 15. Tourism authorities hope the activation will further reinforce the country’s identity as a hub for culture, creativity, and community-driven innovation.
