CEBU CITY – A new exhibition by acclaimed Filipino artist Anthony Fermin opened this week at SM J Mall, placing his spiritually infused contemporary works alongside masterpieces by renowned Filipino artists in a show that blends modern expression with national heritage.
Titled “Anthony Fermin: An Exposition with the Masters,” the exhibit was launched on May 30 and runs through June 14 at the mall’s atrium.
Organized by Galeria Lienzo, the event has drawn interest from collectors, cultural advocates, and mallgoers alike.
The opening was attended by Hans T. Sy, Chairman of the Executive Committee of SM Prime Holdings Inc., and Vice President Marissa N. Fernan, underlining the company’s continued support for the arts.
The exhibition showcases Fermin’s distinctive visual style—marked by graffiti-like textures and bold brushstrokes—alongside works by celebrated Filipino masters such as Fernando Amorsolo, Vicente Manansala, Jose Joya, Fernando Zobel, Juvenal Sanso, and Ramon Orlina.
The curation offers an intergenerational dialogue on faith, identity, and the evolution of Philippine visual art.
Fermin’s pieces are known for their introspective themes rooted in spirituality and transformation, reflecting the resilience and optimism of the Filipino people.
By situating his works next to canonical figures in Philippine art history, the exhibit invites reflection on both continuity and innovation in the nation’s artistic landscape.
Beyond its cultural significance, the exhibit also serves a philanthropic role.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Philippine Red Cross-Cebu Chapter and CDB Cares, supporting medical missions and outreach activities across the Visayas region.
The event aligns with SM J Mall’s Independence Day celebration. On June 12, the mall will hold a flag-raising ceremony and offer special dining promotions, reinforcing a broader commitment to national pride and cultural engagement.
The exhibition is open to the public daily until June 14, offering visitors a rare chance to witness the convergence of legacy and modern vision in Philippine art.
