The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly advance cybersecurity research tailored to the financial industry, in a move aimed at bolstering the sector’s resilience against emerging threats.
The agreement establishes a strategic framework for collaborative research and development focused on practical cybersecurity applications.
It also includes initiatives to enhance awareness, foster talent, and drive innovation in supervisory and regulatory technologies.
As part of the partnership, the HKMA and HKUST Business School will explore solutions based on advanced technologies, including large language models, to strengthen supervisory capabilities and improve the cybersecurity posture of financial institutions.
Research efforts will be informed by ongoing engagement with the industry to ensure alignment with evolving risks and operational challenges.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to ensure the financial system remains secure and robust amid increasing digitalisation and sophisticated cyber risks.
The collaboration aims to deliver real-world impact through academic-regulatory synergy, supporting Hong Kong’s role as a leading international financial centre.
