Megaworld Corp., one of the Philippines’ largest property developers, has completed its transition to 100% renewable energy across all company-owned offices, hotels, malls, and select residential properties, reinforcing its push for sustainable urban development.
The shift covers 54 commercial assets—including 26 office towers, 15 lifestyle malls, and eight hotels—spread across Megaworld’s integrated townships such as Uptown Bonifacio, Eastwood City, Newport City, and Iloilo Business Park.
It also includes residential towers in key urban areas like Taguig, Parañaque, and Makati.
“Reaching 100% renewable energy for all our properties is a significant leap forward in our sustainability journey,” said Jose Arnulfo Batac, Head of Sustainability at Megaworld. “This milestone underscores Megaworld’s long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.”
The company began the transition in March 2024 under a partnership with MPower, the retail energy unit of Meralco, and has since expanded its renewable energy sourcing to include ACEN, the Ayala Group’s energy arm.
Properties classified as “Contestable Customers” under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework—those consuming at least 500 kilowatts—are now sourcing their power entirely from licensed renewable energy providers.
Beyond its current footprint, Megaworld said it plans to extend the clean energy transition to non-contestable properties, including those under subsidiaries and joint ventures, by 2030.
The initiative forms part of the company’s broader sustainability platform, MEGreen, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and aims to consolidate all environmental programs under a single strategic framework.
The move positions Megaworld among a growing group of Philippine firms accelerating decarbonization efforts as the country shifts toward a low-carbon economy.
