Malacañang has declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a regular holiday across the Philippines in observance of Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant Islamic celebrations.
The declaration was made through Proclamation No. 911, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and released to the public on Thursday.
The proclamation follows the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, aligning the holiday with the 1448 Hijri Islamic Lunar Calendar.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
The observance falls on the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the final month of the Islamic calendar, and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.
The holiday declaration allows for nationwide recognition of the religious event, reinforcing the Philippines’ commitment to honoring cultural and religious diversity.
