Philippine President Marcos Seeks Cabinet Resignations in Bold Push for Performance, Realignment

Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called for the courtesy resignation of all Cabinet secretaries, signaling a sweeping realignment of his administration to prioritize performance, urgency, and public accountability.

“This is not business as usual,” Marcos said in a national address, framing the request as a response to mounting public pressure for faster results and less politics. “The people have spoken, and they expect results—not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act.”

The move, while unprecedented in scope for the current administration, is described by Malacañang officials as a strategic reset aimed at giving the President space to assess department-level performance and rebuild a team aligned with his recalibrated national agenda.

“This is not about personalities—it’s about performance, alignment, and urgency,” Marcos said. “Those who have delivered and continue to deliver will be recognized. But we cannot afford to be complacent. The time for comfort zones is over.”

While many secretaries are expected to be reappointed, the sweeping gesture is intended to underscore that no position is guaranteed without demonstrated results. Government operations will continue uninterrupted during the transition, with stability and continuity among key considerations.

The President emphasized that meritocracy will guide future appointments. The move is widely seen as a shift from early-stage governance to a more aggressive, outcome-driven strategy, particularly as the administration confronts inflation, infrastructure gaps, and governance reforms.

By triggering a full Cabinet review, Marcos is betting that a leaner, more results-oriented team can drive the administration’s next phase—one he hopes will be judged not by rhetoric, but by measurable outcomes.
