Globe CEO Carl Cruz: ‘Connectivity Is a Right’ as Telco Accelerates 5G, Rural Rollout

Globe Telecom is ramping up its network expansion across the Philippines as it pushes toward universal access to reliable internet, with President and CEO Carl Cruz declaring that “connectivity is no longer a privilege—it’s a right.”

As of March 2025, Globe’s 5G coverage has reached 98.71% of Metro Manila and 97.97% of key cities in Visayas and Mindanao, powered by 235 new 5G sites.

The high-speed network now supports over 9.5 million 5G devices, promising faster mobile experiences and unlocking emerging technologies like AI.

In parallel, the company added 487 new cell towers and upgraded nearly 4,000 existing sites with LTE enhancements, including advanced technologies like 32T32R Massive MIMO for denser urban zones.

Under the Connectivity Plan Task Force, part of the Private Sector Advisory Council’s initiative, Globe has switched on 600 new cell sites in isolated and underserved areas—from mountainous provinces in Luzon to remote southern island barangays—bringing essential services closer to those left behind.

The telco aims to expand this to 700 new sites by end-2025, reinforcing its goal to close the digital divide and empower all Filipinos through inclusive connectivity.

Globe’s commitment has earned global recognition. At Mobile World Congress 2025, the company was named the Philippines’ Most Consistent Mobile Network (2022–2024) and awarded for its AI-ready, energy-efficient optical network infrastructure.

“Our mission is to ensure every Filipino can access opportunities through reliable connectivity,” Cruz said. “This is how we support livelihoods, education, and national growth—by making sure the future is connected for all.”
