China’s Trensor Breaks Ground on RM100 Million Automotive Sensor Plant in Malaysia

Trensor Electronics Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian arm of China-based Trensor Co Ltd, has broken ground on a new RM100 million manufacturing plant at Penang Technology Park Bertam, marking a major step in the company’s global expansion strategy.

The four-storey, 10,000-square-meter facility is expected to begin mass production of automotive pressure sensors before the second quarter of 2026.

Once fully operational, the plant will employ over 200 workers and generate more than RM200 million in annual sales.

Trensor has also secured additional land at the site for future expansion phases.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and other key government and industry representatives, including officials from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), InvestPenang, and the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA).

The investment is positioned to strengthen Penang’s role as a hub for automotive electronics within Malaysia’s broader electrical and electronics (E&E) ecosystem.

Trensor’s decision to locate its first overseas plant in Malaysia reflects confidence in the region’s manufacturing infrastructure, skilled talent pool, and pro-investment environment.

The facility will bolster Trensor’s production capacity to meet rising demand in Southeast Asia’s expanding automotive market, while also supporting exports to its core markets in North America and Europe.

The company, which supplies pressure sensors to global automakers including Ford and Geely, as well as Tier 1 suppliers such as Cummins and Hanon Systems, derives roughly 60% of its revenue from exports. Its sensors are also used in vehicles produced by Malaysian automaker Perodua.

The Penang plant underscores Trensor’s commitment to vertical integration and automation, core elements of its manufacturing model.

As global supply chains continue to diversify, the investment adds further momentum to Malaysia’s ambition to climb higher up the electronics value chain.
