Globe Expands 5G and Fiber Reach to Broaden Digital Access Across the Philippines

Globe Telecom Inc. is ramping up efforts to extend high-speed internet access to more households across the Philippines by accelerating its deployment of fiber and 5G technologies, particularly in underserved and remote areas.

The company is targeting a broader base of consumers, including SEC D households, through its prepaid fiber product, GFiber Prepaid (GFP), which offers a contract-free, plug-and-play setup with flexible reload options.

The prepaid service allows users to top up every three to four weeks via the GlobeOne app, AMAX, or ECPay — a model designed to align with the spending behavior and budgeting needs of lower-income families.

“Connectivity is an enabler of progress,” said Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz. “By expanding our network infrastructure, we are unlocking access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for millions of Filipinos.”

Globe reported a Net Promoter Score of 67 for GFiber Prepaid, significantly higher than the industry average of 31. The metric underscores customer satisfaction with the service’s affordability and ease of use.

In parallel with fiber deployment, Globe is expanding its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) 5G offerings, allowing it to deliver reliable high-speed internet in locations where fiber rollouts are not feasible.

The hybrid approach also helps reduce mobile network congestion by shifting users onto dedicated wireless home internet.

As part of its 2025 roadmap, Globe plans to expand connectivity to an additional 100 Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), raising the number of cell sites in those locations from 600 to 700. This move aims to bridge the digital divide and bring more Filipinos into the formal digital economy.

The strategy aligns with Globe’s broader push to deliver inclusive, customer-centric connectivity solutions while collaborating with government and private sector partners. By deepening network coverage and diversifying service models, the company aims to improve digital access for both urban and rural households.
