BYD Cebu Group Expands Presence with New Showrooms, Eyes National EV Charging Network

BYD Cebu Group has inaugurated three new showrooms, including its flagship BYD Cebu Central, now the largest BYD dealership in the Philippines, as the company continues to strengthen its leadership in the country’s electric vehicle (EV) market.

The group formally launched BYD Cebu Central, BYD Cebu IL Corso, and BYD Ayala Center Cebu in a single event, bringing its total number of dealerships in Cebu to four. A fifth showroom, BYD Cebu South in Minglanilla, broke ground earlier in the day and is expected to open by year-end.

“We are very thankful for the overwhelming support from Cebuanos. Their strong embrace of sustainable mobility shows that the shift to electric vehicles is already well underway in Cebu,” said Edward Onglatco of BYD Cebu Group said during a press briefing.

Since its entry into the Cebu market in April 2024, BYD has sold over 1,000  EVs locally. The company plans to introduce four additional models this year, expanding its lineup to 14 vehicles across various segments, including subcompact hatchbacks, SUVs, and family vans.

BYD is also aggressively developing its EV charging infrastructure to support its growing customer base. It targets 100 charging stations nationwide by the end of 2025, with more than a dozen already operational in Cebu, supported by partnerships with companies such as Prince Warehouse.

The company highlighted significant consumer cost savings with EV adoption, citing up to 80% lower operating expenses compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. Each vehicle purchase includes home charger installation, further easing the transition for new owners.

“At BYD, we don’t just sell cars — we provide complete mobility solutions, including vehicles, charging infrastructure, and after-sales support. Our obligation is to the entire community, not just our customers,” said Bob Palanca, BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director.

BYD’s battery electric vehicles offer ranges that allow for round trips across Cebu Island without recharging. For inter-island travel, the company is establishing charging points at strategic locations, including Toledo and ferry access points to Negros and Bantayan Islands.

Local government interest in EV adoption is also growing, with Cebu City already integrating BYD vehicles into its municipal fleet. Cebu City Mayor-elect Nestor Archival has reportedly expressed plans to expand the city’s use of EVs, aligning with national efforts under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA).

BYD’s market strategy in Cebu mirrors its broader global push, as the automaker — backed by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway — continues to challenge established players in multiple international markets.

The company expects continued strong growth, buoyed by increasing consumer awareness, competitive pricing, and a comprehensive support ecosystem for EV users.
