Thailand’s MUU Secures Funding to Scale Animal-Free Dairy Using Precision Fermentation

Bangkok-based MUU, Thailand’s first animal-free dairy biotech startup, has raised fresh funding from A2D Ventures, Leave a Nest Japan, and a leading Japanese food conglomerate to accelerate its mission of transforming the dairy industry through precision fermentation.

Founded by a team of biotech and business veterans, MUU uses microbial fermentation to produce bioidentical milk proteins without involving animals.

Its products are lactose-free, cholesterol-free, and hormone- and antibiotic-free, while offering the same taste, nutritional value, and functional properties as conventional cow’s milk.

The production process uses up to 90% less greenhouse gas emissions, land, and water compared to traditional dairy farming.

The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lotte Fine Chemical to explore future distribution opportunities, and has already received sample requests from major coffee chains and food producers across Thailand, Singapore, and Japan.

The investment reflects growing venture capital interest in sustainable food technologies amid rising demand for dairy alternatives in Asia, where up to 80% of the population is lactose intolerant.

MUU plans to scale its operations across Southeast Asia and expand globally, banking on strong early corporate traction and R&D partnerships.

The company’s backers include A2D Ventures, Glocalink Singapore, Leave a Nest Capital, and global food-tech accelerator Brinc. MUU aims to redefine dairy consumption in Asia by offering sustainable, ethical, and healthier alternatives without compromising taste or quality.
