ACEN Australia Secures Access to Central West-Orana REZ, Advancing 2.1 GW Renewable Projects

ACEN Australia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Philippine-listed ACEN, has secured access rights to New South Wales’ Central West-Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ) for three major renewable energy projects, bolstering its expanding clean energy portfolio in Australia.

The granted access covers the 920 MW Valley of the Winds wind project, the 600 MWac (780 MWdc) Birriwa Solar project, and a 600 MW/2-hour Birriwa battery energy storage system (BESS).

These projects now have the right to connect to new transmission infrastructure being developed by ACE-REZ on behalf of the New South Wales Government, following a competitive tender process.

The Birriwa Solar and BESS projects received development approval in August 2024, while Valley of the Winds is in the final stage of planning review.

“This milestone reflects our disciplined approach to development and strengthens our role in supporting Australia’s energy transition,” said David Pollington, Managing Director of ACEN Australia. “It reaffirms our long-term commitment to regional investment, job creation, and responsible project delivery.”

The announcement follows ACEN Australia’s successful $750 million portfolio debt refinancing in April, which established a dedicated funding platform to support its regional operations.

ACEN, the Ayala Group’s listed energy platform, is one of Asia Pacific’s fastest-growing renewable energy firms, with around 7 GW of attributable renewable capacity.

The Philippines is its largest market, and it maintains a significant presence in Australia, Vietnam, India, and Lao PDR, with strategic investments in other Southeast Asian markets.

The company aims to achieve 100% renewable energy generation by 2025 and reach net zero emissions by 2050.
