SquareX raises $20m in Series A to scale browser security solution

SquareX, a Singapore-based cybersecurity startup, has secured $20 million in a Series A funding round to accelerate the growth of its Browser Detection and Response (BDR) technology, a solution designed to turn any browser into an enterprise-grade secure browser through a simple extension.

The funding was led by SYN Ventures, with participation from existing investor Peak XV Partners, formerly Sequoia Capital SEA.

The investment will support SquareX’s product development and global market expansion.

SquareX addresses a growing gap in enterprise security, as browsers increasingly become primary targets for cyberattacks.

While traditional security tools often lack visibility into browser-based threats, and proprietary enterprise browsers can disrupt workflows, SquareX offers a browser-native solution that integrates security directly into the browsers already used by employees.

The company’s BDR solution helps organizations mitigate risks such as malicious browser extensions, phishing attacks, generative AI-related data leakage, and insider threats.

By embedding detection and response capabilities within the browser environment, SquareX aims to reduce the enterprise attack surface without compromising user experience or requiring major infrastructure changes.

The latest funding round builds on SquareX’s progress since its seed stage, where it began developing a browser-focused security platform to address client-side web threats.

The company’s approach contrasts with traditional endpoint solutions by focusing on the browser as the new frontline for cybersecurity threats.

SquareX plans to use the new capital to scale its technology, strengthen threat detection capabilities, and expand its customer base across enterprise markets.

The company continues to position its solution as an alternative to dedicated enterprise browsers, offering flexibility and ease of adoption for organizations seeking to enhance browser security.
