Blueleaf Energy appoints John Warren as Japan Country Manager to lead expansion strategy

Blueleaf Energy, a pan-Asian renewable energy platform backed by a Macquarie Asset Management managed fund, has named John Warren as Country Manager for Japan, as the company seeks to accelerate its growth in one of Asia’s largest renewable energy markets.

Warren brings over a decade of experience in Japan’s renewable energy sector, having been actively involved since the country’s utility-scale market took off in 2011.

His background spans project development, construction, financing, and customer origination across feed-in-tariff (FIT) and corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) models.

In his new role, Warren will lead Blueleaf Energy’s strategy to scale its Japan operations through a combination of greenfield development, co-development partnerships, and acquisitions of late-stage development and operating portfolios.

The company said its expansion will target solar, onshore wind, and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

Prior to joining Blueleaf Energy, Warren served as Head of Business Development at Vena Energy Japan, where he led multidisciplinary teams across project origination, development, and contracting.

His leadership is expected to play a key role in driving Blueleaf Energy’s ambitions in the Japanese market, including potential strategic mergers and acquisitions.

Blueleaf Energy CEO Raghuram Natarajan described Warren’s appointment as a pivotal step in the company’s North Asia growth strategy, adding that his leadership and knowledge of Japan’s renewables landscape will help accelerate the company’s contribution to the country’s clean energy transition.

Headquartered in Singapore, Blueleaf Energy develops, finances, owns, and operates renewable energy and storage assets across Asia.

The company, which emerged from the solar business of Conergy and rebranded under Macquarie’s ownership, currently has a development pipeline of around 4 gigawatts across the region.

Blueleaf Energy provides renewable energy solutions to corporate and industrial customers as well as large utilities, focusing on enabling sustainable and resilient energy systems while meeting the highest environmental, social, governance, and safety standards.
