ICTSI Acquires Stake in Rio de Janeiro Marine Property for Terminal Expansion

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has acquired a 47% stake in a marine property in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as part of its plan to expand the capacity of its ICTSI Rio Brazil terminal and support the potential development of a private use terminal in the area.

The transaction was executed through ICTSI’s wholly owned subsidiary, ICTSI Americas B.V., which secured the interest in FII Inhaúma (INHAÚMA FUNDO DE INVESTIMENTO IMOBILIÁRIO – FII).

The fund holds perpetual rights to approximately 32 hectares of marine property known as Estaleiro Inhaúma, an inactive shipyard located at Rua General Gurjão in the Caju district of Rio de Janeiro. The site directly borders ICTSI’s current terminal operations in the city.

The company said the newly acquired property will initially serve as additional operational capacity for the ICTSI Rio Brazil terminal, which handles containerized cargo in one of Brazil’s busiest port regions.

Over the longer term, ICTSI is positioning the site for the development of a Private Use Terminal (TUP), in line with its strategy to strengthen logistics capabilities and scale up infrastructure in key growth markets.

The acquisition reflects ICTSI’s continued investment in expanding its global footprint and enhancing its service offerings in strategic locations.

The additional land area is expected to support the terminal’s operational flexibility, improve service efficiency, and provide room for future capacity expansion in response to growing demand in the port of Rio de Janeiro.

ICTSI’s entry into the Brazilian market is part of its broader diversification strategy across the Americas, where it operates several port facilities.

The Philippine-based port operator has been actively growing its presence in emerging markets through acquisitions, greenfield projects, and partnerships, seeking to capitalize on opportunities in regions with rising trade volumes and infrastructure needs.

The company’s global portfolio spans terminal operations and related infrastructure across Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. With this latest investment in Brazil, ICTSI aims to reinforce its position as a key player in the international port and logistics sector.
