Philippine Airlines (PAL) has appointed British aviation executive Richard Nuttall as its new president, effective May 29, 2025, as the flag carrier seeks to strengthen its leadership team and expand its international presence.
Nuttall, who will report directly to PAL Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lucio C. Tan and PAL Holdings Inc. President Lucio C. Tan III, brings decades of global aviation experience.
He previously served as chief executive officer of SriLankan Airlines, where he led the airline’s return to operational profitability and supported the growth of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
Nuttall’s appointment is part of PAL’s medium- and long-term strategy to reinforce its management team and enhance global competitiveness, the company said in a statement.
He will replace Captain Stanley Ng, who has held the post since January 2022. Ng will transition to new roles as vice president of PAL Holdings Inc. and member of the airline’s board of directors.
The leadership reshuffle also includes the appointment of Carlos Luis Fernandez as executive vice president and chief operating officer, also effective May 29.
The management changes come as PAL continues its fleet modernization and expansion plans, including the delivery of nine Airbus A350-1000s and 13 A321neos beginning in 2026. The airline is also rolling out refurbished A321ceos with upgraded cabins this year.
PAL reported a net income of PHP10.01 billion in 2024, following record earnings of PHP21 billion in 2023. The company remains optimistic about sustaining its growth momentum despite global industry headwinds, backed by ongoing leadership reforms and fleet investments.
