Globe Telecom has fully transitioned its Cebu-based office tower to renewable energy, advancing its net-zero targets through a partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail energy arm of Ayala-led ACEN.
The 19-story Globe Tower Cebu, located within the First Abacus Financial Center Condominium Corporation (FAFCCC), is now powered entirely by clean energy, marked by a ceremonial signing and turnover of the “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge.
The move underscores Globe’s broader commitment to decarbonizing its operations. Electricity usage accounts for about 30% of the company’s total greenhouse gas emissions, making it a critical component of its sustainability roadmap.
“Being the first publicly-listed company in the Philippines with approved near- and long-term science-based targets by the Science Based Targets initiative inspires us to push further in our net-zero goals,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.
Globe has been working with ACEN RES since 2019 and currently operates 33 sites on renewable energy, with 22 of them under medium- to long-term power purchase agreements. The company aims to power over 100 sites with clean energy by 2026.
The recent opening of programs such as Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA), the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), and Retail Aggregation in Mindanao is expected to accelerate Globe’s transition by improving access to renewable energy options.
Aligned with national renewable energy policies, Globe targets a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Beyond energy sourcing, the telco also encourages its suppliers to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into their operations, reinforcing its leadership in sustainability within the Philippine telecommunications sector.
Globe is a participant in the United Nations Global Compact and supports key UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
